Every year around this time I have a bunch of moms ask me…
“What are you doing with your kids for New Year’s Eve?”
We have never really been a family to go out and celebrate with a big adult only party. Honestly until the day we spend New Year’s Eve at Magic Kingdom in an overly priced VIP area (I can dream), we will most likely be found at home.
New Year’s Eve started to worry me after becoming a parent. So many drivers on the road that make me…nervous.
With that in mind I find we are able to ring in the New Year cozy at home preparing for the excitement of the new DECADE.
Baking Competition
We tend to turn everything into a competition. That’s normal right? 🙂 After a year of watching Nailed It with the kiddos they love seeing what they can make and what it looks like in the end. Since the finished product is just for us I love letting them get creative.
Wilton has a new line of kits – DIY Lish-Â that keeps it simple and gives you everything you need for easy baking competitions. You don’t have to run out and buy a bunch of ingredients you might never get around to using. It’s the perfect size.
Game Night/ Puzzle NightÂ
I love finding games that can grow. What I mean is that we can keep lying as a family and add on each year with expansion packs. We never have the same game twice, but it is something we enjoy and come to love.
Villainous by Ravenburger is such a fun go to game, that all ages can enjoy. There are expansion games that can be played in along with the game or independently. Of course my Disney loving kids can’t get enough and we love it just as much as they do.
Don’t let age get in your way. If you have littles, there are games for them too. Yes. Even for toddlers. The best time to start playing games with you littles is at this age, so grab a puzzle and plan your evening.
Movie Marathon
We are in the prime day and age of streaming services. Whether Netflix or Disney Plus. Cuddle up on the couch with your favorite movie franchise. I love surprising my kids with a new Tervis Tumbler for the night. They have pretty much everyone of your families favorite movies and they have a lifetime guarantee. Not too many products can say that. Pair this with a fun popcorn or taco bar. You’ve got the perfect evening plans.
Fancy S’mores for a Sweet 2020Â
I love when a product puts itself into the spotlight by becoming better. Better choices, better flavor, better quality. It changes a normal night of s’mores to something a little more special. I’m sure you have seen Smash Mallows at the store by now. I honestly had no ideas how many flavor choices they had to chose from, and my boys are hooked.
Simply switch out your regular marshmallow for one (or heck, grab a few bags) of these and put smiles on faces. They are also fun to step up your rice kripsy treat game.
Star Hunt
I didn’t know until this year that candy cane hunts were a thing. Yes, just like an Easter Egg hunt. My feed was filled with families searching for candy canes on Christmas Day. I figured you could take this idea and bring it to New Years Eve. Glow in the dark stars (yes, the kind made for your kids room ceiling)… but these you set under the light to power them up and hide around the yard after dark. Of course use your best judgment based on your kids age.
