SummerFest at Gaylord Palms – The Must Do Florida Family #staycation

It’s not a surprise how much I love Orlando. Tons of things to do and something for any interest you may have. Orlando can be exhausting though. When there are too many places to go, it feels like you are always in a rush and can never fully enjoy one thing before rushing off to the next.

This is why I absolutely LOVE Gaylord Palms. Once you park to check in there really is no reason to leave the property, and you can experience something new every day of your stay. This is especially true for families with kids. Taking the hassle and stress out of a staycation and making sure everything you could possibly need is in one location.

A little sneak peek of our favorite trip moments.

Right now a lot of people have asked me if I felt safe (because of COVID19) traveling with my kids, and without a doubt, the answer was yes. Another reason we chose to stay close to home. It is an easy driving distance from most places in Florida and I knew the property would take the proper precautions.

I was not disappointed. I can’t tell you how many sanitizing stations there were throughout the property. I’m pretty sure my boys used all of them. Masks also needed to be worn throughout the property, aside from your room, if you were eating or in the pool. Most guests were following all of the requirements.

One of the first things we did after check in was EXPLORE! Our family loves scavenger hunts and a great way to learn your way around the property, see what you might want to do next, and dive into Florida history is with Gaylord’s Florida Explorer Scavenger Hunt.

This doesn’t have to be done all at once, and takes a good amount of time. We of course also got distracted with taking pictures, checking out the live alligators, and just enjoying being there.

If your kids love turtles and alligators, there is an awesome viewing area with feedings on Tuesday and Saturday. Make sure to include this into your plans.

If you have never been to Gaylord Palms, the atrium views are simply amazing. Those are the balconies you can see in the background of this picture. Imagine sitting on the balcony of your room, drinking your coffee in the morning, listening to the waterfall and admiring all of the beautiful foliage. At night you can also experience Illuminate Florida Light Show.

Sitting with my boys on the balcony is one of my favorite memories there. They think it’s so special, and it absolutely is. It’s a memory that I hope they always have. Talking about our favorite moments of the day, relaxing with an ice cream from the gift shop, and watching the lights.

Let’s not forget the outdoor water park. After being at home for months this was a much needed and much enjoyed part of our stay. This was perfect for kids of all ages, including me. 🙂

The kid’s splash pad is huge, but there is only one way in and out for security with was MUCH appreciated. I was able to splash and play with my kids and forget any of the stresses that were waiting for us (in real life). There were also slides that were kid friendly and kept my boys busy for a great chunk of time. Seeing the smiles on their faces from enjoying something “normal” again was amazing.

If your kids are a little older there are also slides for them along with a flow rider… I know the boys will be ready for that in the next few years.

Make sure to grab some socially distanced pool chairs, relax and grab your favorite beverage. The only thing that kept us away from the pool was Florida weather, but that’s something we are used to. Just meant it was time to head to dinner.

We actually ate at Wrecker’s, the on property sports bar both nights. Try the loaded tots. You won’t be disappointed.

There is still plenty of time (always make time) to escape with your family for a few days. Check their website for more information about SummerFest or other activities they have throughout the year.

From the time you wake up in the morning, till your head hits the pillow at night… Gaylord Palms makes sure everything you need to relax and recharge is there. My boys are already to go back… who am I kidding… I totally am too!
